WVCC hosts town hall and skill-up Aug. 28

Join Willamette Valley Crisis Care in envisioning and practicing safety and resilience Friday, Aug. 28, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Art House, 492 E. 13th Ave. in Eugene.

Willamette Valley Crisis Care has received a grant from the Chambers Family Foundation to do community trainings around crisis intervention and skill building for collective care.

This event is part of a series offered to various groups to do some visioning together around community safety and care—what’s here and what’s needed—and share some tangible skills.

These skills focus on being with people while they’re struggling while also caring for ourselves. These are geared towards community engaged in mutual aid, and caring for others in their communities, and those in the helping professions.

This 90-minute training is designed for helpers all over our city and includes a facilitated conversation with the audience about defining safety followed by a skill-up training on the topics of self-as-intervention, de-escalation, kind boundaries for helpers, and identifying health emergencies like overdose and hyperthermia.

We’re starting with the downtown business community and serving other microcommunities like the library staff, LGBTQ+ folks, healthcare providers, bilingual and immigrant helpers, and direct service workers.
