Summer Reading, free gift books at Eugene Public Library
from Eugene Public Library
The whole community is invited to join Eugene Public Library for Summer Reading activities from June 1 through the end of August. From babies to grown-ups, everyone is welcome to participate in free fun and learning at the library’s three locations: the Downtown Library, Bethel Branch and Sheldon Branch.
“Summer Reading is one of the ways the library brings our community together,” Library Director Angela Ocaña said. “Whether you’re picking up your first picture book, exploring a new author or attending an event with friends and family, we want everyone to find something that sparks their curiosity this summer.”
The library will host free events all around town including storytimes, book groups, creative activities and guest presenters. Highlights include
- The Teddy Bear Picnic – 11 a.m., July 18, in the park at Amazon Community Center
- Lil Comic-Con – 2 p.m., July 31, Downtown Library,
- Teen and Tween Comic-Con – 2 p.m., Aug. 7, Downtown Library
- A talk by visiting author Aimee Nezhukumatathil – 3 p.m., July 25, Downtown Library.
Throughout the summer, every child and teen can visit the library to choose a free brand-new gift book from a varied selection of thousands of titles. Kids can play Book Bingo to explore new reading adventures all summer, square by square.
Adults can choose one of two featured books as a gift, while supplies last: “Bite by Bite: Nourishments and Jamborees” by Aimee Nezhukumatathil (memoir and short essays) and “Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murders” by Jesse Q. Sutanto (fiction).
By sharing a reading recommendation, adults and teens can enter a raffle for gift cards to local book, game and hobby stores.
Library cards are not required to participate in Summer Reading. For full library services, including borrowing items and using online resources from offsite, sign up for a card. Eugene Public Library cards are free for everyone who lives within City of Eugene limits, for all Eugene School District 4J and Bethel School District students regardless of address, and for all children through five years old who live within those school districts.
