Missing woman, 27, found deceased in McKenzie River

Gina Christina Piazza, 27, Eugene, was reported missing on Sunday, Sept. 20. Evidence indicated she was likely near McKenzie View Drive and Coburg Road as recently as Friday evening.

Piazza was described as an Asian female with black hair and brown eyes, 5’2” tall and weighing 120 pounds. She was last seen wearing a long-sleeve tan shirt, black pants, and black shoes. Piazza also has a prosthetic right leg.

Around 2 p.m. Sept. 25, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a subject seen in the McKenzie River, downstream from the Armitage Park boat launch. Marine Patrol deputies, Lane County Sheriff Search & Rescue staff and personnel with Eugene Springfield Fire all responded.

Using a jet boat, LCSO deputies were able to locate a subject downriver. Tragically, the person was beyond aid and pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies and fire personnel were able to safely extricate the subject from the river and bring them back to shore.

The deceased has been identified as Gina Christina Piazza. The Lane County Medical Examiner’s Office was notified, and the subject was transported to the Lane County Morgue for further investigation.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office thanked all who helped in the search effort and said the circumstances surrounding Piazza’s death remain under investigation but there is no ongoing threat to the community.
