IPA’s Sam Husseini responds to reports of Israeli military shipments on United Airlines

Curtis Blankinship: Reports are emerging that shipping records indicate United Airlines resumed transport of military-related cargo on passenger flights to Israel, including shipments destined for Elbit systems.

Researchers documented thousands of such shipments during the earlier period they examined. Investigative journalist, human rights activist, and congressional candidate Sam Husseini responded to the United Airlines story.

Sam Husseini: So, I’m here in Chicago today. But I wanted to say a few words about the story about United Airlines reportedly shipping weapons on passenger flights to Israel.

Obviously, this needs to be taken on and highlighted directly, and obviously highlights that continued Israeli carnage in Gaza and elsewhere and in the West Bank and Lebanon and Israel’s addiction to war and aggression leading to the Iran war.

But I think there is another front to this and that is the front of corporate power and the need to genuinely take that on.

I feel like it’s an example of the impediment to the way becomes the way. That is, every obstacle that we encounter to building a more peaceful and just world shows us another institution that needs to be taken on, or not even an institution, a structure of institutions that needs to be taken on. That is…

The rise of the amoral corporation as the dominant organizing feature of our lives needs to be totally undone. Either the corporation needs to be redefined as something that isn’t this amoral beast that we try to restrict in some minor way or completely other structures become how we organize ourselves in order to create the goods and services that we need,
whether that’s much more of a socialistic model or co-ops or whatever it is.

I think should be a matter of massive, meaningful public discussion and not political gamesmanship. But one thing that is clear is that the current system, the current establishment is completely intolerable and is diametrically opposed to how we as human beings need to be functioning.

So, you know, every indication when we say free Palestine, it doesn’t just mean free the people in Gaza and the West Bank, the Palestinian people. It means taking on an imperial corporate structure, which is distorting what it means to be a human being. It effectively means working to free us off.
