DeSpain TV spot hits Hoyle on data centers

Monique DeSpain, the Republican candidate for Oregon’s 4th Congressional District, released her first television advertisement of the general election, using it to draw a direct line between Val Hoyle’s continued political corruption, her biggest corporate supporters, and the tax breaks fueling Oregon’s data center boom.

The ad opens on Oregon’s forests, rivers, and homes, then turns to the land being sought for development and the power being consumed to run it: the infrastructure behind the state’s growing AI and data center industry. It argues that Hoyle, like Gov. Tina Kotek, has accepted support from AI companies driving that boom while those companies collect large tax breaks and ratepayers absorb the cost.

The spot then pivots to DeSpain’s own record: a retired Air Force colonel and JAG officer who, the ad states, has not taken money from big tech.

The ad begins with a female voice narrating: “When we look at Oregon, we see our forests, our rivers, our homes. But big tech sees land to develop, water to consume, power to burn. Like Tina Kotek, Val Hoyle’s taken thousands from the AI companies driving the data center boom. They get massive tax breaks. We get higher bills. (upbeat music) Monique DeSpain, retired Air Force colonel, JAG officer, hasn’t taken a dime from big tech. She’s fighting for us.”

The ad concludes with the candidate saying, “I’m Monique DeSpain, and I approve this message.”

“This is political corruption, plain and simple,” DeSpain said. “Val Hoyle has taken more than $275,000 from the big tech companies pushing this data center boom, and in return, they get a congresswoman who answers their calls while Oregon families get stuck with the bill. I haven’t taken a dime from big tech, and I won’t be making decisions on their behalf in Congress.”

Monique DeSpain is a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel, a 20-year JAG Corps attorney, and a licensed Oregon attorney running for Congress in Oregon’s 4th District.
