Rob Weaver action-comedy short to premiere at Art House Sept. 3

Dream Weaver Productions will premiere the locally produced action-comedy short film “Mastifinol: Untamed Smart Drug” on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026, at Art House in Eugene (formerly known as the Bijou Art Cinema).

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and the event will begin at 7 p.m. The approximately 60-minute program will include the premiere of the 18-minute film, followed by a live audience Q&A with Eugene writer and director Rob Weaver and members of the film’s creative team.

“Mastifinol: Untamed Smart Drug” follows two hopeless slacker roommates who purchase an unapproved, military-grade “smart pill” from a psychotic back-alley doctor. When the drug produces an erratic surge of hyperfocus, the roommates find themselves caught in a chaotic conflict involving federal agents, syndicate bosses, and rogue mercenaries.

The fast-paced short combines action, dark comedy, and an intentionally exaggerated pharmaceutical premise. Filmed in Eugene and surrounding areas, the production features local cast and crew members, including Rob Weaver, Mike Schwab, Michael Blackman, David Mort, Mikyla Bordner, Dave Matthys, Dylan Fix-Carter, Chris Green, and Will Brack.

“We wanted to create something energetic, funny and unpredictable while showing what independent filmmakers can accomplish right here in Eugene,” said Weaver. “We’re excited to finally share it with an audience and talk about what went into bringing the film to life.”

The premiere is designed to offer local moviegoers an entertaining theatrical experience while celebrating the filmmakers, performers, and creative professionals contributing to Eugene’s independent film community.

Attendees are encouraged to embrace the evening’s Miami Vice theme by wearing bright colors and styles inspired by the 1980s. The event will also include T-shirt giveaways.
