Rally for Lorenzo & Johan July 18 at Federal Building

Presenter: A ‘Rally To Stop ICE Terror’ will be held Saturday, July 18 at 1 p.m. at the Federal Building, 211 East 7th.

The rally is to protest recent killings and deaths caused by ICE, demand justice for Lorenzo and Johan, and organize against racist state violence targeting immigrant communities. This rally is part of a national day of action.

Speaking Monday night at the Eugene City Council, Latiffe Amado:

Latiffe Amado: This week, ICE murdered two more community members—on July 13, a 26-year-old Colombian man, Johan Sebastián Guerrero; and on July 7, they murdered Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. And I think it’s really hard for almost every Brown person in this room, and I would bet in your personal and professional lives, with people with so much power, with an audience and a voice, to not even acknowledge that.

So I really encourage you to use your voice to honor the dignity of every life.

Presenter: Democracy Now! reported that both were targeted by mistake, and immigrant rights groups say the Palantir AI surveillance software was to blame.

Despite the many links between ICE terror and surveillance cameras, the city of Eugene chose to install cameras near the Federal Building — along Oak and Pearl between 6th and 7th — through Sunday, July 19. The city says it’s part of a traffic study to improve your walking experience and that the images will not be used for identification or enforcement.
