Monday evening demonstrations focus on the vote

Presenter: We joined the Monday morning protest at 29th and Willamette to ask: What does your sign say, and why are you sharing that message?

Protester: My sign says: ‘Vote, Save it, Protect it, Do it.’ It’s probably the most important issue right now—now until election time. It’s really important for us to get people to understand the importance of our vote right now.

How are you going to get what you want, or change what you don’t like, if you don’t vote? How are you going to do that? How will that happen?

You’re just going to leave it in the hands of those who are in power right now? That isn’t going to get what you want, it’s going to get what they want. If you want what you want, you’d better vote—at least you have a shot.

Presenter: Get out the vote, Mondays from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. along 7th as cars approach the old Federal Building.

Protester: It’s like one block west of the federal building between Oak and Pearl every Monday from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. that is specifically geared to getting the vote out. So if anybody wants to know and join us, we’re going to try to do this every Monday through November. Or perhaps beyond November.
