Quick response contains damage in fatal apartment fire

Eugene Springfield Fire responded within four minutes of the 4:48 a.m. call Jan. 25 to a fatal apartment fire at 2966 Willamette St.
Their rapid response contained the two-alarm fire to the apartment of origin, which had been occupied by two residents.
One individual perished from fire-related injuries. The identity of the deceased individual is being withheld until the family can be notified.
Eugene Springfield Fire crews rescued the second resident from the apartment and transported that victim to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
CAHOOTS, EWEB, and the Eugene Police Department also provided on-scene assistance.
The fire was under control by 5:15 a.m.
Upon initial evaluation, it was estimated that eight to 10 people living in the apartment building might be displaced. However, due to the quick response time and rapid containment of the fire, these residents were able to return to their apartments.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
