Trainsong Park is temporarily closed after DEQ soil sampling found high levels of dioxins.

The City of Eugene temporarily closed Trainsong Park Jan. 13 following the unexpected discovery of elevated levels of dioxins in the soil.

The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) collected soil for testing for background data in the fall of 2021, while also testing seven sites at J. H. Baxter & Co. The results of the testing revealed dioxins, a group of toxic chemical compounds.

Parks and Open Spaces, City of Eugene said the closure of Trainsong Park will continue until further testing and evaluation have been completed. The City’s top priority is ensuring the safety of community members.
